Cet article aborde le mensonge politique par-delà la distinction entre le vrai et le faux, non comme contre-vérité, donc, mais précisément comme court-circuitage de la notion même de vérité. Si la distinction entre être et paraître est nulle et non avenue en politique, où il n’y a production d’être que par la pluralité des apparences, il convient alors d’aborder le mensonge moins comme un propos contraire au réel que comme une fiction qui entend produire le sien propre. La critique de ces « mensonges » ne procède plus alors d’un appel à une référence transcendant le discours politique, mais bien d’un examen du fonctionnement du discours lui-même.

This article analyzes the concept of political lie beyond the usual distinction between truth and falsehood, and defines it not as a counter truth, but precisely as a disruption of the very notion of truth. If the distinction between reality and appearances is non pertinent in politics, where facts lie in the sum of appearances, we must then consider political lie as a fiction producing its own facts, rather than the opposite of truth. Thus, a reference transcending political speech would be less efficient in criticizing those "lies" than the analysis of the functioning of speech itself.
