La menace comme source d'inspiration. Le cas de JR.

Depuis le début des années 2000, l'artiste français JR a mené différents projets participatifs aux quatre coins du globe. Muni d'une focale 28mm, le photographe est parti à la rencontre d'anonymes, de minorités oubliées ou, au contraire, de communautés faisant la une de l'actualité afin de tirer leurs portraits et de les afficher en grand format dans l'espace urbain. Destiné à redistribuer les cartes du visible en faveur du citoyen, son art se nourrit directement des menaces et des contraintes qui pèsent sur l'habitat et le quotidien des individus. Plutôt qu'un frein à la création, l'imprévisibilité et le danger sont pour lui un terreau fertile à partir duquel de nombreux projets artistiques fleurissent. En partant de Portrait d'une génération et en s'appuyant sur d'autres projets plus récents, l'article parcourt les différentes formes de menace qui déterminent le dispositif artistique pour les appréhender comme une condition indispensable à la réouverture des possibles et à une reconfiguration des partages du sensible. L'importance de la menace, matérielle (support) et sémantique (contexte) empêche en effet l'artiste de s'afficher tel le grand orchestrateur de cette reconfiguration pour endosser, lui-même, les habits d'une figure fondamentalement menacée.

Since the early 2000s, the French artist JR has managed various participatory projects around the globe. Equipped with a 28mm lens, the photographer went to meet anonymous, forgotten minorities, or at the opposite, communities making the headlines to shoot them and post their portraits in a large scale in the urban space. Intended to redistribute the cards of visible in favour of citizen, his art is directly inspired by threats and constraints which is a burden on the housing and the daily lives of people. Instead of a hindrance to the creation, unpredictability and danger are a fertile ground from which many artistic projects are built. Starting from Portrait d'une generation to rely on more recent projects, the article goes through the different types of threats that determine the artistic device to apprehend it as a prerequisite to reopening of possible and a reconfiguration of sensitive experience. The significance of the threat, physical (support) and semantic (context) prevents the artist from introduce himself such a great orchestrator of this reconfiguration to endorse the clothes of a figure fundamentally threatened.
