The emergence of the cinema marks a major turning point in the art of the representation forcing the theatre to emphasize its legitimacy. The conquest of its authenticity goes through a reflection on its essence in which theorists and practitioners like Grotowski have part. In his essay Towards a poor theatre, the polish director expresses the need to strip the scene of any artifice in favour of its sufficiency: the encounter between the actor and the spectator. Grotowski tries to develop the body language of the actor. Detached from the weight of the text, the theatre offers a new mode of communication and communion. In this way, the theatre maintains its status as a single device where the actor and the spectator experience their beings in a particular space-time without interface.
